Life needs Water – The association „LBW“

We are an Austrian aid organization that specializes in building drinking-water wells around the world.
Our team has taken up the challenge to set up drinking-water wells in the first instance in areas where there is an extreme shortage of drinking water and thus to provide the people there with access to clean drinking water.
These official drilling projects are registered by name and are almost exclusively financed by means of donations. Naturally, all donations are committed to the stated purpose, directly “flowing” into the projects. -Dietmar Stuck, Jr. (Supervisor of well construction) has been operating in the field of drinking-water well drilling for more than 10 years. -All work is carried out solely by companies in the respective country. The reliability of these companies is checked by us personally. -Numerous drinking-water wells in areas with shortages of drinking water are not constructed professionally. There are many cases where mending is required after only 3 to 6 years. Sand filling or corrosion have made it impossible to get water out of these wells. Such mending is often as costly as acquiring a new well. -Dietmar Stuck, Sr. and Dietmar Stuck, Jr. have the gift to divine for water through radiesthesia (dowsing by rods and pendulums).
People who support us may come along with us to our projects in Africa. So they can get an impression of our work on site and be present at the water festivities.

Guaranteed support and success

Water divining and surveys are carried out by radiesthesists Dietmar Stuck, Jr. and Sr. Supervisor of well construction and water well driller Dietmar Stuck Jr. checks if all wells that are financed through the association are constructed in accordance with current European Standards.
We only work together with selected well drilling companies in the respective countries checked by us beforehand, and we are on site during the entire working period.
The executive board of the association offers each donator the opportunity to be present during well construction and to participate in the water celebration that takes place when water has been found.
On request, well sponsors also have the possibility to have their names put on a donator’s badge attached to the well.
As a water well partner, you will be linked to our website with your logo, your support and contact details. You will receive a well partner’s certificate and our well partner’s logo. You are very welcome to use these for your own and for commercial purposes, such as folders, advertisements, Christmas cards etc.

Water Well Sponsorship

Become a water well sponsor and support your own water well project. Project costs vary depending on the project.
With an amount starting at EUR 5,000 you can participate in a well sponsorship project.
Well-sponsors‘ and partial well-sponsors‘ names can be put on a donator’s badge attached to the well on request, and their names can be displayed and linked on our website www.lifeneedswater.org under the menu item Water Well Sponsorship with their logo and their project.
A certificate confirming your water well sponsorship will be issued for you.
Furthermore, you will receive detailed reports, pictures, the logo of your well sponsorship and other materials. You are welcome to use these materials for your own and for commercial purposes such as folders, Christmas cards, websites. Each care project is only as strong as all its supporters together. Every EURO is one more step to a new drinking water well.

Creating Life Through Clean Water

Although 70% of the earth are covered by water, fresh water makes up for less than 3% , and only one tenth of it is available in its liquid form. This means that fresh water and drinking water are precious goods that are unequally distributed on our planet. This source of life has moreover a major impact on the ecological balance.
Water is the elixir of life Humans cannot live without water. Still, billions of people worldwide have no access to drinking water and adequate sanitary facilities. This impairs their health, their surroundings, their dignity and the future of their children.
More than a billion people obtain their drinking water from contaminated springs, wells, ponds or rivers. Every year, about 1.8 million people die from diarrhea-related diseases. Most of them are children under the age of five.
There are more children worldwide dying because of water shortage than because of wars, malaria and AIDS together.


Drinking-water wells will be sponsored under the following conditions:

after a successful survey for water through radiesthesia.
after clarifying property rights to ensure that everyone will be able to fetch water and to enable all people living in the region to make use of the well.
after assent of the local authorities to use the well on an economic basis.
It is our intent to provide additional benefits through sponsored wells. The people should not regard them solely as a present, but as means for self-empowerment. Thus, a village to which a well has been donated, obligates itself to use it on an economic basis, too. One example for this would be to create a vegetable garden from which the entire village benefits.

Basic Requirements for Drinking-Water Wells:

Drilled drinking-water wells require certain prerequisites which need to be fulfilled in order to guarantee quality water supply in the long run.
Some companies try to set up as many wells as possible with pre-defined budgets instead of keeping to these basic requirements. They save on material, and in some cases even put money aside for other purposes.
In order to set up a high-quality drinking-water well, it is foremost essential to choose the right material (PVC, fiber glass or stainless steel) and determining the drill diameter. The drill diameter will later define the required diameter of the well pipe.
Ideal materials for the construction of drinking-water wells are PVC, fiber glass and stainless steel since these are, unlike steel pipes for instance, not prone to corrosion and rust.
We use PVC for our drinking-water wells. Fiber glass and stainless steel are applied when wells with far larger delivery volumes, diameters and depths are constructed. The correct drill diameter is necessary for the annulus (that’s the distance between the drill diameter and the well pipe and is applied with centralizer). This annulus gets banked up with quartz gravel once the well pipe has been mounted in the desired depth. The diameter of the quartz gravel grains depends on the ground material and the width of the slots inside the well pipe.
Many wells are constructed without keeping this distance, without using centralizer and without filling up the well with gravel. The well pipe is simply put into the ground.
As a consequence, the well silts up, and the resulting reduction of delivery up to complete dryness is only a matter of time.
Gravel pack is also necessary at a more advanced stage for sealing. Without such sealing, shallow water like rain or waste water can get into the well water, thus causing bacteria.
Unfortunately, there are also cases where the protective well pipe is completely spared and only a well pump gets installed.
To avoid such misconstructions, we only work together with selected well drilling companies checked by us beforehand, and we are on site during the entire working period.


Why Donate...

Just imagine: Your faucet does not supply you with water any more. You have to cover a distance of 50 km on foot every day to get clean drinking water. -You take this water into a canister bearing 20 litres and carry it home on your head or your back. -This is normal life for about 500 million people in Africa supplying their children and families with clean drinking water. -Another 200 million people have no access to clean drinking water at all and get their water out of contaminated puddles, rivers or lakes. -The consequences: 6.000 people die every day due to diseases resulting from parasitical worms and diarrhoea – 4.000 of them are kids under the age of 5. -These people are craving for what we send into the sewerage every time we flush the toilet carelessly.

Reasons for a co-operation?

One of our goals is to emphasize the unused potential of a co-operation and thus to minimize superfluous expenditure of work. Administrative efforts can be downsized considerably in a co-operation of numerous small NPO’s – concerning web presence, administrative charges, fundraising campaigns and judicial filings.

We would like to help our partners raising funds as well as finding new donators and supporters. This can take place at events where we present the great story of our joint work or in the form of mutual marketing appearances.

As many good deeds as possible shall be done – everyone contributing with their resources and strengths.
